The trail starts at a turnaround in mobile just past the high school. Enjoy driving the mile and a half to the trailhead entrance with the beautiful atlantic ocean mere yards from you. Make sure you allow plenty of time to hike this trail. We parked in the turnaround.

Refuge staff will work to build a public trail this summer and a small portion of the trail is open to foot traffic from sunrise to sunset. For those wishing to continue the hike past tinker knob the trail starts to rise and fall a bit more especially at the end where the granite chief trail drops over 1 900 in just 3 2 miles. Timber point is a 97 acre peninsula with a 13 acre timber island that borders the little river estuary and the atlantic ocean.

At the far end of granite point road lies timber point and timber point island. It winds next to the little river. The trail begins where granite point road turns into timber point road. 6 hours will give you enough time to pace yourself take pictures and eat lunch at the cliffs.

You can wander off trail and poke through tidal pools and rocks and if you ve timed your hike right you can walk across to timber island. This scenic 1 4 mile loop is located on the peninsula and takes visitors past fringing salt marshes cattail marshes mixed deciduous forest mudflats shrublands and rocky shores. This island can only be reached and returned from at low tide. This is a wonderful walk just under 8 miles one way by a little beach and then along the little river to the ocean s edge where you have views of goose rocks beach and the 13 acre timber island.
